Time rounding automatically adjusts your Time Entries to consistent minute intervals – like 6 minutes for legal billing or 15 minutes for project work. Once enabled by an Account Admin, all Users will have their Time Entries rounded up when logged.
The same is true for setting a lockout date - once set by an Account Admin, Users will be unable to record time to the lockout date or any date before it.
Setting up time rounding
Only Account Admins can configure time rounding for your MinuteDock Account.
Navigate to Account → Account Settings and scroll down to the Time Rounding section.
Check "Round time to" and enter your desired interval in minutes
Optionally check "Only round when logged from the timer" to limit rounding to logging Time Entries only
Click Save to apply the changes Account-wide
Logging vs editing rounding
The "Only round when logged from the timer" option controls when rounding is applied:
Unchecked: Time Entries are rounded both when logging new entries and when editing existing ones
Checked: Time Entries are only rounded when logging – editing existing entries won't apply rounding
💡 Tip: If you want to ensure that Time Entries are always kept to your chosen interval, then leave this unchecked. Otherwise, it will still be possible to edit Time Entries to any duration.
How rounding works
MinuteDock rounds up to your chosen interval. There is no "round to nearest" mode.
Any leftover seconds are dropped first, then the remaining whole minutes round up. With 6-minute rounding:
You track | It logs as | Why |
2 minutes | 6 minutes | Rounds up to the first interval |
6 minutes 39 seconds | 6 minutes | The 39 seconds are dropped, and 6 minutes is already on the interval |
7 minutes | 12 minutes | One minute past the interval, so it rounds up to the next one |
12 minutes | 12 minutes | Already on the interval, so it stays put |
If you want exact times for work you enter by hand, tick Only round when logged from the timer so manual entries are left alone.

Things to keep in mind
Existing Time Entries
Turning on time rounding will only apply to Time Entries logged or changed going forward. Existing Time Entries will not update when you change time rounding settings.
Mobile apps
Time rounding works identically in MinuteDock's mobile apps using the same rules you've configured.
Re-docking behaviours
Re-docking a Time Entry restarts its timer so you can keep adding to the same entry later in the day.
⚠️ Important: If you re-dock a rounded Time Entry on the same day to resume the timer, it keeps its rounded duration – the rounding won't be reversed.
Account-wide impact
Remember that time rounding applies to all Users in your Account. Consider discussing the change with your team so that they understand how it works.
Time lockout date - video guide
The lockout date locks every Time Entry dated on or before it. For the full detail on lockout dates and how Admins can unlock individual entries, see Locking and Unlocking Time Entries.
