Personal Time Tracking Settings

Learn how to enable and use user specific time tracking settings for night owl mode and automatic timer restarting via the Profile screen.

Each User in MinuteDock has a few personal settings that change how the Timer and the Time screen behave for them.

These settings are per-User, so turning them on only affects your own time tracking — not anyone else on your team.

There are three settings available: Night Owl Mode, Quick Log Mode, and Receive email notifications. Each one is a tick box you can switch on or off at any time.

Where to find these settings

  1. Click Profile in the top right navigation bar to go to your Profile screen.

  2. Under the Update Your Details section, click More options.

  3. Tick or untick any of the three settings, then save your changes.

The new behaviour applies straight away the next time you use the Timer or open the Time screen.

Receive email notifications

This setting sends you an email when the Timer has been left running for an unusually long time without being paused or logged.

It's designed as a safety net for timers accidentally left running past the end of the workday, over a break, or overnight — so you can catch them and adjust the entry before the time gets recorded incorrectly.

Turn this on if you've ever come back to MinuteDock to find the Timer has been ticking away for hours longer than you actually worked.

Night Owl Mode

Night Owl Mode changes how Time Entries are dated when you're working late.

Normally, a Time Entry is logged against the calendar date it was recorded on.

With Night Owl Mode turned on, any time you log between midnight and 4am is dated as the previous day instead.

This is useful if your workday often runs past midnight and you'd rather see that work grouped with the day it belongs to, rather than split across two dates on your Timesheet.

Example: With Night Owl Mode on, a Time Entry logged at 2:30am on Tuesday will appear on Monday's Timesheet. Anything logged from 4am onwards on Tuesday will appear on Tuesday as normal.

Quick Log Mode

Quick Log Mode automatically starts a new Time Entry the moment you log the current one.

By default, when you log a Time Entry the Timer stops and waits for you to start it again.

With Quick Log Mode on, the Timer immediately starts running a fresh entry instead, so you can move straight on to your next piece of work without restarting the Timer manually.

This is built for users who switch between Contacts, Projects, or Tasks frequently throughout the day and want to keep the Timer rolling continuously.

ℹ️ Note: The new Time Entry starts blank, so you'll still need to assign a Contact with @ and a Project or Task with # once it kicks off.
