Time sheet managers can now add and edit employee time

November 3, 2014

While managers could always edit existing time details via Reports, it wasn't possible to add new time entries for an employee or change the employee that time entry was associated to. As of today, that's all possible!

Firstly, managers can edit any time entry and assign it to a different user. Simply click on an editable entry, and click the employee's avatar to re-assign it.

Next, on the Time tab, managers can now click to swap to the timesheet of any employee.

Finally, to add time as one of your employees, simply click 'Dock' next to their name, and your normal Dock will add time on their behalf (instead of yours). This makes it really easy to enter a bunch of time at once just using the keyboard.

New Pricing Plans

September 14, 2014

When we first started MinuteDock in early 2009 we initially set out to solve our own problem: fast and easy time tracking, seamlessly integrating with our billing worklow. As it turns out, lots of other people had this problem too!

While our initial pricing plans worked well for our original target audience, MinuteDock has grown to be used by a range of companies and industries that we never considered. So, it's time to update our pricing plans to better suit the next wave of customers coming through.

If you're already a customer, your existing pricing plan will not change.

Our new pricing is split into 4 primary tiers:

  • Freelancer/Individual - $19 USD/m
  • Starter (including 2* users) - $29 USD/m
  • Small Team (including 5* users) - $49 USD/m
  • Business (including 10* users) - $99 USD/m
  • * Add users for $9/m/user

One of the challenges of our previous pricing structure was that as your team grew, particularly after 12 users, there was a huge jump in the price to take you to the new tier. This was a bit frustrating if you were only adding one user. With our new pricing you can add users indefinitely at $9/user/m - meaning there is never any large jump in price.

You can check out the full details of the new plans on our pricing page.

If you find yourself needing to include a specific narration consistently across invoices or clients, then this is now easy.

Simply set a Project or Task description. Then, when you generate an invoice, toggle the Project or Task description details to be included in your lines. MinuteDock will automatically include the description - and you can toggle off other elements of the formatting if you need.

See all your unbilled contacts on the Invoices tab

July 21, 2014

Just a little change to the way the "quick links" to create an invoice work on the Invoices tab. Before, we used to only show the top 6 unbilled clients to quickly create an invoice. This was a bit confusing, so now we will show an invoice creation button for every client with unbilled (and billable) time!

Just a little change to make invoicing day easier :-)

The Dock now live syncs across open devices

July 14, 2014

We have a very useful update for people who like to operate MinuteDock with multiple browser tabs. The Dock will now instantly sync any updates made in one tab, browser window or on another computer.

This means that those pesky 'Dock was out of date' warnings should mostly be a thing of the past!

Easier way to dock time for past days

July 10, 2014

Sometimes you forget to log your time, it happens to the best of us. The MinuteDock philosophy is to track time as you go, but we still work great if you want to log your time retroactively!

If you've done this before, you'll know that you have two options: either log an entry and change the date by editing it, or type in something like "(dd/mm/yyyy)" or "(last Wed)" in the dock bar to have it interpret the date for you. It works, but sometimes it can be a bit clunky, depending on your typing speed.

Well, good news! We've just released a little improvement to the time tab which should make this easier!

Using the Dock bar to log time is super fast. Typing the @contact or #task takes seconds (depending on your typing speed!). But, if you have a decent number of clients, projects and tasks set up, then it can be quite hard to remember what they all started with, since the matching was only looking at the prefix of the contact/project/task.

Well, from today that's changing! The Dock bar will now search anywhere in the short-code of your contacts, projects or tasks to suggest a match and present a list for you to choose from. It even underlines where it's found a match from what you've typed!

We've already had feedback from a number of customers that this will be a massive time-saver, and we hope so!

You know those times. You're creating an invoice, you've run a search for which time you want to include, but you see a minor mistake: a typo in the description, the wrong project or task assigned perhaps.

When you create an Invoice with MinuteDock, you select what time to include and then we generate some initial Invoice line items for you based on that time. At that point, the time entries and the invoice line items are separate. But, if you just want to fix up a time entry then and there, you had to go out of the Invoices section, run a search in Reports, and find the entry to edit. Ugh, what a hassle.

Well, now you can edit the time entry then and there as you're creating the invoice! Great for making those quick tidy-ups or tweaks as you see them. Oh, and for our QuickBooks Online customers, this improvement also applies to the Send Time to QuickBooks feature :-)

Expanding line item descriptions on invoices

June 16, 2014

For those of you who like really long line item descriptions on your invoices, this will be a welcome change! When creating an invoice, your line item fields will now expand to fit the text. No more scrolling along a single line to see what the description is... (phew!)

Hopefully that makes the next invoice you generate a little bit smoother :-)
